The Newest, Latest, Less Invasive Faster Recovery Facelift and Neck Lift

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Recently, I received an inquiry from a surgical nurse who saw a feature on “The Doctors” TV show demonstrating the “latest, less invasive” neck lift technique from Beverly Hills that is supposed to be less expensive with faster recovery:

Denver Plastic Surgeon Continuing Education: The National Meetings

Denver Plastic Surgeon Continuing Education: The National Meetings

I just returned from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons Meeting in Seattle, Washington. The ASPS is the world’s largest organization of board certified plastic surgeons, so it’s meeting draws experts from around the world.

Attending the meeting is a bit of a manic state: it is truly a three ring circus, with 2 to three major auditoria presenting scientific and clinical papers and symposia, side by side with exhibits and courses.
I have learned to go prepared with specific agendas and plan my time to hear the talks and see the exhibits on my list. At the same time, I know (and hope for) the unexpected will catch my attention, and present a new learning opportunity. That really is the essence of these conventions: the opportunity to learn from experts and colleagues, exchange ideas, and see what advances are on the horizon.

No Pain IS a Big Gain for Plastic Surgery in Denver

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Pain-free Denver plastic surgery is within reach.

New technology has made it possible to control postoperative discomfort more effectively. The Pain Pump (anesthetic pump) is a breakthrough technology that has dramatically improved the comfort of my patients during the post-op period. The Pain Pump is a simple device that connects a reservoir of local anesthetic (“novacaine”) to a very fine tubing (catheter) that drips the local anesthetic right into the surgery site to keep it numb for days after surgery. The result is much greater comfort for our patients.

Denver Revision Rhinoplasty

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

In my practice, I have many patients who come to see me requesting revision rhinoplasty (nasal surgery) after they have had an unsatisfactory result from a procedure performed by another surgeon.. The problem is usually an unsatisfactory appearance, but may sometimes include functional (breathing) problems.
Why does this occur?
The nose is a complex structure and Denver rhinoplasty requires thorough understanding of the anatomy, facial aesthetics, nasal function, and refinement in surgical technique. Perhaps most importantly, (and no matter the specific specialty of the surgeon) consistent results in rhinoplasty depend upon the good judgment and experience of the well qualified Denver plastic surgeon.
This is why some of us have developed a reputation as surgeons to see for revision rhinoplasty.
The experienced rhinoplasty surgeon knows that the process begins with careful listening to the patient’s goals. Confirming that understanding is often done with computer imaging. The surgeon has to have the experience to know what can be realistically achieved and be able to communicate this to the patient.
The added complexity of secondary rhinoplasty includes working with the scarring and anatomy changes from the first procedure.
To know what to do is essential, but at least as important is to know when to do it.
That insight is an important qualification of the experienced surgeon.

Denver Smart Lipo is NOT so “Smart”

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

One of the more popularized devices for liposuction is Smart Lipo, which uses a LASER to purportedly “melt” the fat (LASER lypolysis, laser-assisted lipolysis) before suctioning.

The concept is compelling. If a device can selectively break down the fat (selective lypolysis), there would be less trauma to other tissues (skin, blood vessels, nerves).

Less trauma (tissue injury) in surgery is always desirable. Less trauma means less inflammation, less scarring, less bruising, less swelling, less pain. Less trauma means faster recovery.

Denver Breast Augmentation and the Economy

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

The current state of the economy is daily news: it’s impossible to ignore.

Yet, my schedule for consultations and elective cosmetic procedures are filling at a rapid pace.

Why?

The current economic climate in Denver has resulted in the lowest prices for Denver breast augmentation in years. Special incentives from breast implant manufacturers have helped to lower the costs for breast enhancement surgery.

Many people are taking advantage of this opportunity to do something important for themselves. An enhanced self-image is priceless, and the rewards enduring.

Denver Plastic Surgeon talks Saline or Silicone

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Now that you have decided to have a Denver breast augmentation, it’s important to decide whether to use saline- or silicone gel-filled implants.

Which is Best? The decision is always individual and personal, best determined in a dialogue between you and me during your  consultation.

Breast Implant Safety: Breast implants have had a great record of safety. The fallout of the breast implant “crisis” of the mid 1990’s and the focus of the FDA has led to hundreds of scientific and clinical studies, as well as technologic advances.
