How Should I Prepare for My Tummy Tuck?

Proudly serving Denver, Littleton, Highlands Ranch and Nearby Areas of Colorado

A Denver woman prepares for her tummy tuck surgery Tummy tuck surgery offers our Denver patients a number of benefits, but to get the most out of your abdominoplasty, you need to prepare. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Zwiebel places patient safety and satisfaction at the top of his priority list, and you can help by following a few simple recommendations prior to your procedure.

Before your tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Zwiebel will take time to thoroughly explain what you can expect from your procedure and recovery. He will answer all of your questions and provide you with a comprehensive preparation plan.

While every cosmetic surgical procedure at The Zwiebel Center for Plastic Surgery and Skin Care is completely customized to the unique needs of the patient, the following are some general recommendations to consider before your tummy tuck surgery.

Prepare your home. Make sure your home is clean and recovery-ready. You’ll want:

  • Lots of moisturizer and petroleum jelly
  • Loose, comfortable clothing
  • Plenty of pillows
  • Ice packs
  • A hand-held shower head and bathtub chair
  • A hefty supply of magazines, books and movies
  • Easy-to-prepare meals and snacks

Make any needed medication adjustments. Be sure to tell Dr. Zwiebel about all the prescription drugs, supplements and herbal medicines you currently take. Some medications should be avoided for at least two weeks prior to surgery, such as aspirin, ibuprofen and diet pills.

Eat a well-balanced diet. Never start a new, drastic diet in the weeks leading up to surgery. Tummy tuck surgery is not a method of weight loss. You should already be near or at your ideal weight at the time your surgery is scheduled. A balanced, healthy diet improves your recovery.

Stop smoking. If you smoke, you need to quit at least two weeks prior to surgery. You’ll also need to remain smoke-free for another two weeks following your abdominoplasty. Simply cutting down won’t suffice. Failure to quit could risk complications and impair the recovery process.

You should also ask someone you trust to drive you home after your procedure. If you live alone, you may want to ask a friend to stay with you the first night.
